Let us continue our tour of the Florida Southern College campus in Lakeland, Florida.  Here we come across the outside of the Library building which was built during the war years at the peak of Frank Lloyd Wrights career after he built Fallingwater and just before the Guggenheim building.  This was made of large curved bricks cast in sand on site.  For details and historical photos of the construction see: Historical Photos.

The bricks remind me of early “Lego” blocks with patterned sides and interlocking features.  The prismatic windows were a feature of many structures.  Note the copper top edge is missing but you can see the impression in the concrete.  Perhaps that will be restored in the future.  The Library was locked and I was unable to go inside.  Most buildings were open.
