As you follow the Genesee River in Rochester and you go North out of town you come across the area called Charlotte.  This is an area close to the outlet of the Genesee River into Lake Ontario.  Originally in 1822, they built this lighthouse to guide boats and ships into the Genesee River.  The area built up and was so successful that the seawalls built collected more and more silt and land expanded until the lighthouse was nearly a mile from the water. So they built a new one at the end of the long cement pier/ barrier.  Thankfully, the lighthouse and building attached are still here in a park form overlooking the river.  Yes, this was Spring in NY State even with the bits of snow around.
