I have to confess that I was drawn to this painting because of its fantastic gilded frame.  The frame was so deep, cut out and carved that it made the painting stand out about 4″ above the wall.  It made it look so three dimensional.  After looking closer at the painting by Lawrence Alma-Tadema (British 1836-1912), I really started to appreciate the art also.  It was entitled: “Dr Washington Epps, My Doctor” 1885.  The doctor who was the artist’s brother in law, was taking the pulse of a patient by feeling her pulse.
