At the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, there was a very flat marble sculpture by William Henry Rinehart (USA 1825-1874) called “Evening” (1856-1870).  It appeared to be a framed porcelain plate but was in fact a very finely done carved marble sculpture:
