I was surprised to see many traditional American pieces of classic furniture at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  This Chest on Chest was made of Mahogany, Poplar, Pine and brass made in 1765-1785.  From Philidelphia, Pennsylvania.  I have always called these “Highboys” but I am amazed by the fenestrated brass hardware and especially the carvings.

This companion piece next to the above chest on chest is a Block Front Chest with Ball and Claw feet also in Mahogany by John Cogswell of Ipswich or Boston, Massachusetts.
