There are many fascinating exhibits at the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake and sometimes you find surprising things like these Ice Axes or Ice Hammers.  These are particularly old and well made with side straps of steel going down the handles.  They were used by climbers in wintertime going up the tall mountains in the Adirondacks.  I wish I knew all the places and adventures these axes had been on.  Even the original surveyors of the mountains of the Adirondacks used these while carrying all their transits and gear to the top of unknown ranges.
