While at the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association meeting at Paul Smiths College in the Adirondacks I went to a demonstration of logging.  Paul Smiths College has a complete logging and wood course and they have a professional powered sawmill and they also have a team of horses and a small ranch or barn to house them so students can learn logging the traditional way.  Horses can more easily go up steep hills and between trees on narrow paths and pull logs out for land management.
