Great Camp Santanoni in the Adirondacks is now a National Historic Landmark and taken over by NY State. Robert Pruyn, a prominent banker in Albany, NY started the Santanoni estate in 1880 near Newcomb in the Adirondacks. He bought many parcels totalling an incredible 12,900 acres.
Here we are starting out on the wooded unpaved road to Great Camp Santanoni on a nearly 2 hour horse and wagon ride. (This gives you an idea of how vast this property is). You can hike, walk, bicycle, ski, snowshoe in or take the free horse drawn wagons. There are no motorized vehicles allowed.
We will go over the sights and history as we take the ride.
