As we leave Great Camp Santanoni in Newcomb, NY in the Adirondacks and start our long 5 mile horse drawn wagon ride back to the Gatehouse, we look back and see the beautiful Lake Newcomb. This is the lake that attracted the Pruyns here to live in the wilderness and go boating and fishing back in 1892. This view is down near the boathouse on the left side of Santanoni:
The island to the left provided cover and protection to the boathouse from pounding waves and wind.
This last view is of Lake Newcomb from the vast 5,000 sq foot verandas and porches of Santanoni. Santanoni covered 580 feet of shoreline and had 24 rooms and 7 bathrooms. In total there were 41 buildings supporting the complex and a large staff. There were 31 + bedrooms just for staff.
