I was staying in Ukiah, Californina for a few days and saw there was an Airshow nearby at their tiny airport so I had to show up.  After a while in the 104 Degree heat we all heard a distant roar that got louder and louder then on the horizon came a silver dot that got louder and closer.  It was the P-51 Mustang called “Speedball Alice”. It passed over the field low a few times to make sure the airstrip was clear and then landed.  What a spectacular sight and sound.  It taxied up to our group on the side of the airfield and the pilot and copilot got out and warned people to stay back from the 12 exhaust ports as they were red hot and over a 1,000 degrees.

The P-51 Mustang from WWII has a ridiculously large propeller.  Note the three machine gun openings on each wing.
