When walking the trails at Letchworth State Park in Western New York State, you can get right up to the edge of the cliffs that lead way down to the Genesee River below.  The river has cut the deep gorge over millennia to make a “Grand Canyon of the East”.  Here the one foot stone wall separates you from oblivion but the view is unobstructed except for the occasional tree hanging on for dear life by its roots.  I liked the patterns of lichen on the stones of the wall.
