Here at the Memorial Art Gallery (MAG) in Rochester, NY there are many items by Wendell Castle.  This wooden table is designed and made to appear to have a tablecloth on top in a kind of trompe l’oeil style.  He has made other objects in this style like a grandfather clock with a cloth draped over it all in one large block of wood.  True trompe l’oeil makes a 2D photo or painting look like it has 3 dimensions.  These 3D objects look like they are something they are not.  He has a very unique style and is the leader in American Art Woodworking.
