As you come onto the vast 12,900 acre preserve of Great Camp Santanoni you cross a small bridge over Lake Harris and the beginning of the Hudson River. Yes, the same Hudson River that makes it was all the way down to New York City and the Atlantic Ocean. Most Gatehouses are small and have just a gatekeeper if that for an estate, but this structure is a mansion in itself being two stories tall, stone and has a large arched area for carriages to go through. It is hard to believe that it is a full five miles or just lest than 2 hours drive to get all the way into the deep property back to the Great Camp Santanoni which overlooks a 860 acre lake surrounded by three mountains.
