On the way to the flea market in Webster, Florida I stopped in the road and took this shot of one of the many giant Live Oak trees there. They even have them throughout the market for shade. They are super slow growing and this one is hundreds of years old. The wood is extremely hard being much harder than northern oak species. It was coveted and used in the wooden ship industry of the past for its toughness. I have seen it cut at a sawmill and absolutely ruin the large saw.

The South Florida Museum has an open central courtyard surrounded by classic styled buildings. In the center of the courtyard is a fountain with a large statue of Hernando DeSoto. Perhaps this is because DeSoto landed in Bradenton after coming up the Manatee River. The tented wires above are lights that must be on at night.

Let us walk around inside the South Florida Museum and see what else is here. At first I thought this was a pre. Columbian dog but now I think it is a jaguar. I love the eyes and fangs.
A reconstructed hand formed pot by native Anericans. I like the impressed spirals.
An original neon sign from Bradenton with palm trees and a fisherman. The fish and rod are moving.

This little gem in South West Florida was unknown to me until recently. The South Florida Museum is just across the bridge from Palmetto to Bradenton. I got a chance to go in and look around and it is full of high quality exhibits on several floors. They also have a large domed planetarium and a separate Manatee exhibit. It is all near the Riverwalk down near the sparkling waterfront. Next we will take a tour inside.

I accidentally discovered the Riverwalk in Bradenton when I walked down to see the Twin Dolphin Marina. There to the East was a lovely wide walkway that goes right under the bridge and down the shoreline in Bradenton. There were lots of people using it this warm sunny Winter day.
Here is a closeup of the Riverwalk sign:

Walking the relaxing Riverwalk in Bradenton, Florida let us look at the boats and yachts on the sparkling brackish water of the Manatee River. This yacht is almost perfectly still on the calm waters yet you can see the squiggly lines caused by the tiny ripples and the 5 exposures used to make this image. I can easily take out these ghostly lines but they were there and show the wave motion.
This yacht was for sale, so hurry you may not be too late.
