Just down from the Philip Boss house is the historic Henry R. Seldon house in Clarkson, NY. Henry Seldon lived from 1805-1885 and was Lt Governor of NY and a Judge. George Seldon also was born here and he was famous for “Seldon Patents” for the Automobile.

This is another house in historic Clarkson, NY along Ridge Road. There are many brick houses along this road earning it the name of “Little Williamsburg”. This house is from the 1820-1830’s about the time the Erie Canal was made just South of here. A few hanger on leaves stay on the trees. There is a historic marker in front of the house saying “Philip Boss, Artist and Cabinet Maker lived here from 1820-1830 and then moved to Rochester to the East. Then he became a popular portrait artist”

Its mid November here in upstate NY and there are very few leaves left on the trees. I went out on a nice photoshoot on Sunday and it snowed on me and started out around 18 degrees. On the way home I passed through historic Clarkson and there were a few tenacious leaves holding on the trees. It was windy and suddenly the clouds parted and shed some nice sunshine on this large Sycamore tree. I had to stop and take a few shots.

Heading back on the Clarkson Trail in the snow I needed to get back before the sunset. There was so much new snow last night that even the tree branches had 6 inches of snow left on them. Here I am behind a branch with snow viewing the sunset through the snow.

On the Clarkson Trail I snowshoed all the way out to the back and returned to the bridge here. There was even more snow during the night and the rails are standing higher in snow than previously. The marks in the snow show the strange pattern of the snowshoes.

This late Winter, early Spring snowstorm made the most amazing soft snow that was so quiet when you walked on it and beautiful with the sparkling blue sky day out. I had tried to walk the trail with just boots on, but quickly found it way too hard going as I got exhausted in just minutes trying to get through such deep snow. I put on some wooden snowshoes and walked on top of the snow and it was so easy after that. I was steady enough to bring along the camera and tripod. This view is of the trail itself from the bridge and the bottom view is of my snowshoes with a photo taken from my phone.

When crossing the bridge, its nice to take time to stop and see what is happening in the creek. I have seen large brown trout migrating upstream in the very shallow water, minnows and even crayfish. Today the frozen layer is just thawing out and the water flow is resuming.

Hopefully this was the last big snow in NY for the Winter (as its Spring now). This was late January, but we get snow as late as May here. I went out on the 1-2 mile trail behind the house in Clarkson, NY and it was a surprising crystal clear blue sky day after a large snow storm the night before. This sunset I wanted to disturb the snow as little as possible so I went out in wooden snowshoes.
Here I am passing a horse barn on the way back to the creek and the curved wooden bridge.
