We are wandering around the Finger Lakes Boating Museum in Hammondsport, NY on Keuka Lake. One of the great boating displays shows an original Morehouse wooden boat. Morehouse boats were built on nearby Cayuga Lake in the Finger Lakes, and were started in the early 1900’s and built until about 1970 when the state of New York bought the land to make a sewer facility. These boats were built of steam bent oak wood frames with cedar planks below the waterline and mahogany above.
