In this view we see the actual exit of the Greece Junction Lock on the original Erie Canal in NY. These original locks on the old canal were narrow and operated by hand. Most of this section is dried up with trees growing in the bottom of the canal but it is all still visible. A mile up the old canal, it sort of ends as a hospital parking lot and a large road filled in and passes over the canal. On the other side of this and further East you can still find the furrow where the canal used to be. In many places the towpath is still there too.

Yes, the city refers to Rochester, NY which is just a short distance East of the Junction Lock which resides in what is now Greece, NY. The rest of your comment appears truncated by WP.
